Our members are very active not only within the church, but also within the community. Our ministries are listed below:

Celebrations Ministry
The people involved with this ministry plan social activities, help with church dinners and parties, help set up for dinners and are responsible for the coffee and refreshments for our Sunday Fellowship. They constantly strive to bring innovative approaches to our celebrations.
The different "divisions" within this ministry are:

  • Sunday Fellowship

Congregational Life
This group of individuals have numerous responsibilities: greet visitors on Sundays; maintain pamphlets and nametags; follow up with visitor calls or cards; help to plan UU classes; helping new members become involved in the church community; mentoring new members; update the church directory; and new member reception. The areas within are:

  • Creative Communications

Communications
The "high tech" ministry! The members of this ministry deal with computer hardware and software issues relating to the church; develop and publish the newsletter; develop and maintain the website; publish the Sunday Order of Service; plan free and paid publicity, press releases, pamphlets, signs, etc; and keep the congregation informed of UU activities beyond Augusta. Subdivisions are:

  • Denominational Affairs

Education
Education includes Youth as well as Adult learning.
  • Children's Religious Education includes planning the curriculum; recruiting and training teachers and aides; and actually teaching and interacting with the students.
  • Adult Religious Education is actually a series of separate groups:
    The Women's Circle meets at 7pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays
    WEE (Wednesday Evening Exploration) meets at 7pm on Wednesdays
    The Dream Group meets at 7pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month
    Dances of Universal Peace meets at 7pm on the 1st Thursday of the month
    UU101 is taught by Rev. Dan King periodically to explain the background of our church and Unitarian Universalism.

Finance
The Financial Affairs Ministry deals with a wide range of budgetary issues. Their tasks include: lead church goal setting; involvement with the entire congregation in shaping the future of the church community; soliciting commitments; maintain the financial status of the church; recommend financial strategies to the Board and Congregation; audit the books; organize concerts, raffles, rummage sales and other fun ways of supplementing our budget. The Ministry is comprised of:
  • Canvass Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Fund Raising Committee

Resources
This ministry is responsible many areas around the church: help with building maintenance; maintain grounds; cooperate with the minister in developing job descriptions and review job performance of paid staff; and study the long range needs of the church. Four committees make up the Resources ministry:
  • Building Committee
  • Grounds Committee
  • Personnel Committee
  • Strategic Planning Committee

Social Justice
The Social Justice ministry is comprised of numerous focus groups to study local and national issues and propose actions. Currently these include:
  • Interfaith Alliance
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Master's Table Soup Kitchen
  • Golden Harvest Food Bank
  • Christmas Families
  • UU Service Committee

Spiritual Life
As the name suggests, this ministry is dedicated to the worshipful aspects of our services. These individuals take on the responsibilities of scheduling, planning, coordinating and critiquing Sunday morning and special services; they coordinate with the minister, the Religious Education director, the music director and other committees; they maintain supplies of candles, audio tapes, sound equipment, etc.; provide flowers and art objects for Sunday Service; and includes those in the Adult choir and others who volunteer their special musical talents for Sunday services and other church events.
