Text Box: Artist’s works evolve from loose
abstractions to tight clean designs
By RAMONALOWE

"Hard edges, flat planes and clean design" is the description Mrs. Donie Lerner gives her paintings being exhibited through Dec. 10 at the Unitarian Church on Jackson Road at Walton Way Extension.
The exhibit begins today with an open house from 2-4 p.m. in the church meeting room. Mrs. Lerner will be on hand to show and discuss her work, and her husband, Dr. Robert Lerner, will present a program of guitar music.
The exhibit can also be viewed from 9 a.m.-noon Mondays-Fridays.

Text Box: Church setting friendly to Chamber Jazz Series
Web posted January 22, 1999
By Kent Kimes

Jazz enthusiasts interested in smoking jazz chops minus a smoky bar setting or the pressure of ordering from a pricey restaurant menu should dig the Augusta Jazz Project's Chamberjazz Series.
The show, at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Augusta, features the Robert Foster Quartet.
The emphasis, said Mr. Foster, the bandleader, will be on the music.
``It is primarily a listening experience, rather than the music being a background for something else,'' said Mr. Foster, assistant professor of music at Augusta State University.
The group -- Mr. Foster on saxophone, Donald Macey on keyboards, George Sykes on bass and C. Anthony Carpenter on drums -- will play a mix of standards, including My Foolish Heart, and contemporary compositions such as Pat Metheny's Hermitage.
The group has been practicing and working up new material, rather than relying on memory and free-form jamming, as they might for a club gig.
