People—Consulting Ministers |
|
John Burciaga (1977) and John Buehrens (1979) served as consulting ministers after Richard Harris left. Buehrens later visited Augusta (1994) in his role as President of the UUA to help us celebrate our 40th Anniversary.

The Rev. William Hammond, a retired minister who lived in Asheville, served as a consulting minister during the interim before we called Rod Thompson as our minister. Bill lead the worship service once a month and was available for counseling, weddings, funerals. He presided over the Dedication Service for the new sanctuary in 1985.
Bill encouraged us to look at life from different perspectives. In one of his sermons, he used an apple to illustrate his point. Most people cut an apple from the top to the bottom—in wedges—because that’s the way they’ve always done it. But, if we cut the apple through the middle, we find there’s a star waiting for us inside. |
