People—Hoyt Goodson

Hoyt Goodson was an incessant writer to the Augusta Chronicle.  He often got us mentioned in the paper when nothing else could.  Hoyt was also our Poet Laureate.  His book of poems entitled Out of My Mind To Yours was self-published in 1999.

Liz and Hoyt moved to the Waynesboro area and built an architectural oddity—an earth-covered house. The house was energy-efficient and was situated in the middle of nature.  The Goodson’s property was and is the scene of an annual fall and spring picnic.

Text Box: “The world is not divided into altruist and non-altruist; the potential for altruism exists in all people. Many of us perform occasional acts of altruism. Of course people pursue their own individual self-interest, but there is more to being human than merely a struggle to survive or the efficient rational calculation of advantage. Life is possible because a sufficient number of people are not selfish and believe in sharing and helping others.”
from a presentation on “Altruism” presented with
Liz Goodson on April 18, 1999.
